Kerbside Best Practice

03 August 2009Kerbside Report 07/08

Report Summary

The 2007/08 levels of recycling in Scotland and factors associated with high recovery rates are investigated within this report. This understanding can then be used to develop best practice guidance and inform effective public engagement while supporting Government policies and ultimately maximise the amount of recyclate being recovered from the kerbside.

This year's report also includes an analysis of the collection of the residual waste from the kerbside schemes and provides an interesting comparison of the performance of Scottish Local Authorites with other countires in the EU, highlighting that in many instances Scottish LA's are performance is 'best in class'. However it appears that Scotland generates more waste per capita than most of Europe and this may be one factor limiting the achievement of high recycling rates.
